The 52nd edition of the Sehsüchte International Student Film Festival, one of the biggest film festivals for young filmmakers in Europe, will take place from 19th April until 23rd April 2023 in Potsdam. Founded in the 1970s as a showcase for young filmmakers in the GDR, Sehsüchte has established itself over the decades as an internationally important festival and has become an integral part of the Berlin and Brandenburg cultural landscape.

International up-and-coming filmmakers are offered a platform here to present their works and come into contact with a broad audience as well as the industry. Sehsüchte sees itself as a place of encounter and networking, as an event of cultural diversity and a celebration of cinema, today as well as tomorrow. Sehsüchte is planned, organized and implemented entirely by students of the Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF. The direct connection to the renowned film university enables a unique exchange between young filmmakers, media practice and academia, which is the festival's special appeal.

new shores

The Sehsüchte Festival is setting out for new shores in 2023. As an integral part of Potsdam's cultural landscape and the state of Brandenburg, the festival will move out of the buildings of the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF and instead find itself in the heart of Potsdam. The new festival campus will reflect the cultural diversity of the state capital and at the same time bring international perspectives to Potsdam. Our identity and our programme are characterized by innovative films, fresh impulses and new perspectives that reflect current social and aesthetic discourses. Especially in a time marked by political crisis and social insecurity, Sehsüchte as an open-minded cultural event aims to create discursive spaces and to offer young filmmakers a platform to make themselves heard with their art. We see ourselves as a dynamic, young and courageous festival. Only by exploring unknown terrain, questioning existing structures and breaking out of patterns, space is created for new possibilities, for confrontation and inspiration.

We want to open and celebrate this space. We do not show the filmmakers of tomorrow, but of today. The future of film is now - is Sehsüchte.

The FIC AUTOR (Author's International Film Festival) is interested in unique and artistic films that exceed the limits of traditional storytelling. We look for Feature and Short Films that reflect the director's personal creative vision, and a style that is distinct enough to shine through the collective process.

We don't care if your films have recognized stars or unknown names; we are against the politics and bureaucracy that floods the film industry. We want to be recognized as an objective festival. We don't want to build our reputation based on how many superstars are in attendance; what we want is the truly best world cinema in our theaters!

FIC AUTOR will strive to be one of the most important cultural events in the city. We aspire to become an international spotlight for new directors!

-The 13 winning Authors will receive the WINNER LAUREL, plus FIC AUTOR trophy or rings and sponsor's prizes.

-WINNERS will be announced one month before the award ceremony, so all the nominated filmmakers can decide beforehand whether they want to travel to the festival.

-The award ceremony will take place in the CINEFORO, one of the biggest cinema theaters in the city with 440 seats, and is the most prestigious.

We are not like other bulls**t festivals, YOU DONT have to pay for your prize. IT'S A PRIZE, NOT A DEBT! And we don't give metal or glass trophies... Our trophies are 100% made from silver and semi-precious stones! As independent filmmakers we know the things we love and hate about film festivals, so we want to avoid all the negative things we have found the in past years, such as exorbitant, unnecessary fees, teenage judges and of course.. trophies you would rather hide in the closet.

International Summer Film Festival

A way to revitalize the Montevidean summer, a meeting place with the other, a space to enjoy what we like the most: Summer Film Festival.

Organized by Uruguay Campus Film, it was born in 2022 with the aim of strengthening exhibition spaces for short films and promoting exchanges between national filmmakers.

We understand that the audiovisual reality in Uruguay is arousing more and more interest among themselves and others, that more and more spaces are needed where filmmakers can approach a new audience and that they can get to know the national work in all its forms. On these bases the Summer Film Festival is founded, which in this second edition will include a category dedicated to international short films to have a broader and richer cinematography.

Workshops / Talks.
The Summer Film Festival is an opportunity to set up training spaces where filmmakers tell us about their experiences filming and the public can share that common space with them. A relaxed training space, away from the classroom, where filmmakers and viewers can talk and learn from that place.

Cinema in the neighborhood.
The Cinema in the Neighborhood section, which opens the Summer Film Festival, proposes a return to neighborhood cinema and the enjoyment of street art: with the collaboration of Efecto Cine, a giant screen and sound equipment will be set up in the alley final by Edil Hugo Prato and the selected feature film "Hilda's Vacation" by Agustín Banchero will be screened.

Background.
The Summer Film Festival synthesizes a long history of approaching the public that includes various screenings of shorts in events and installations that we have developed during the more than 10 years of UCF, such as: Film Day, Experimental Cinema, UCF is Shown, among many others. But its clearest antecedents undoubtedly go back to the third edition of Encontrá al Director que Llevás Dentro and the second edition of Cine en el Barrio.
