12th. Children's Audiovisual Festival (FICAIJ), 2021-2022
Venezuela-Colombia

The Children's Audiovisual Festival, known by its acronym FICAIJ, was born in Mérida, Venezuela, in 2010, and has consolidated itself after 12 years as one of the most important windows for exhibiting quality educational and alternative content as well as commercial content for children, adolescents, youth and families in the country and the region.

After having attended to more than 41,385 participants in its 11 previous editions which have impacted directly in 6 countries of the world. Facing the panorama of pandemic that we are still living through the COVID-19, we assumed the challenge of transforming ourselves and activating our 12th edition in the web with main incidence in the countries of our region. Additionally, we are planning to have some in-person screenings in Venezuela and Colombia.

History:
More than 1,506 short and long films from 81 countries around the world were broadcast on FICAIJ's screens, and more than 392 people, including children, adolescents, young people and adults, evaluated and judged these films.

Our jurors came not only from Venezuela but also from 9 other countries: Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Ecuador, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Spain, and South Africa, participating in representation of their places of origin.

Philosophy:
We promote audiovisuals from a reflective and productive viewpoint, inviting children, adolescents and young people to take an active role as creators and prosumers.

Mission:
FICAIJ seeks to encourage the creation, production, exhibition and distribution of quality content for and by children, adolescents and young people in the region, stimulating the protagonism of children in all these processes.

2nd. Laboratorio FICAIJ:
With the double purpose of strengthening, on the one hand, the production of children, youth and family contents at a regional level, and on the other hand, the training of teachers in education with and for media, a more evident need in view of the digital education imposed by the pandemic, the organization of FICAIJ assumes the challenge of developing the 2nd. edition of its Laboratorio FICAIJ, a training space aimed at the sector of production of contents for Latin American boys and girls and at the sector of education.

SILENCE (OR NOT)! ROLLING (OR NOT)

Logo of Festhome
Published: 18 Oct 2021

It is traditional, and to some extent reasonable, to hear the pseudo-cinephile comment “I can’t understand anything Marlon Brando says” Or Mario Casas, to use two names that come to mind when you think of actors "who can never be understood when they speak". it is true that neither of them is a vocalization specialist, but at least in their respective careers they always worked with professional sound teams.

I am surprised (and, in a sense, excited) to see how today's short film maker has at their disposal all kinds of advanced technologies to shoot without any budget (pocket cameras, or simply mobile phones, that shoot in 4K, editing applications that you can use on a laptop, etc.). But, when it comes to recording sound, we commission it to our neighbor’s cousin, or to the one with a hangover, or we choose to use the direct sound that we have not bothered to configure in the camera. If we have actors on set with the diction of Brando or Casas, it is a perfect storm that guarantees that our short film... will be understood by no one.

Of course, is not only the short film makers that can be blamed. While it is perfectly possible to find all kinds of express workshops that teach you the rudiments of shooting with a team, or how to start understanding the basis of film photography, or what are the basics of editing and how to start using the most professional editing applications in a few weeks or months, the equivalent sound courses are always long (1 school year at least) or outright non-existent.

When it comes to short film, sound matters to very few people. And we forget that even if we work with actors with John Gielgud’s impeccable diction, if the sound is secondary in the film crew, he will not be understood either.

Over the course of its second year it moved to Cinema dei Piccoli, one of the oldest movie theaters of Rome in the heart of Villa Borghese park since 1934.

Our winning films have gone all the way to A-tier festivals like “May Day”, 1st annual awards winner and Oscar-shortlisted film, “Alien“ by Yeon Je-Wang and “Inanimate” by Lucia Bulgheroni that got into Cannes Cinefondation, “Pierdete entre los muertos” by Ruben Gutierrez that was showcased into the feature films at Rotterdam Film Festival and many others.

Our Mission

We acclaim emerging directors, screenwriters and filmmakers from all over the world and amplify their work by bringing together a diverse audience to experience and reflect on it, and engage in further dialogue.

Our community exists at the intersection of a broader, more inclusive, cinematic gaze and the emergence of truly exceptional cinema.

If films are the content, Alfama is the form that sets the tone for the experiences we create. An architectural somatisation of intimacy, this is the scene in which we invite your films to make their appearance.

Our Story
in 2009 as an informal project to showcase independent cinema in the recondite alleys of Alfama, projected against its iconic stone walls.

In the following years, Cinalfama matured and became a competitive event of an international character, as well as a cultural reference in Lisbon.

The nature of the events has changed over the years, but the atmosphere, films and venues remain as intimate as they have always been.

Our Home
Founded in 1914, Grupo Sportivo Adicense is one of the oldest and most authentic remaining symbols of Alfama’s true soul.

World famous fado singers started their careers waiting tables at this historical institution – one that still stands in the face of constant change and mischaracterisation of the neighbourhood’s urban landscape

Screening Sessions

Tucked into the backstreets of Lisbon’s old town, Alfama, our intimate screenings take place in the city’s oldest cultural house, Grupo Sportivo Adicense.
We host three seasonal screening editions throughout the year, to showcase and award the best talent and films of each one. These are free entrance and all films have English subtitles.
Due to the current pandemic and associated restrictions, we have decided to host next January 2021 edition online, making available a selection of the very best films of the season. Aiming to have live screenings back real soon.

L’Œil d’Oodaaq is a French non-profit organisation that researches on video art and other forms of images in contemporary art.

L’Œil d’Oodaaq will be organising in 2022 its 11th Festival Oodaaq. It will be held in May in Rennes.
It will be composed of: exhibitions, screenings, performances, lectures, moments of encounter.

The festival questions the place of images in today’s society and the way artists reflect on this issue. L’Œil d’Oodaaq is interested in all states of existence of images: construction, circulation, reception, as well as its recent mutations in the digital age. The organisation refers to the term of « nomadic and poetic images » in order to emphasise the moving, multiple and reflective nature of the images it is interested in.

For 2022, the Festival Oodaaq will mostly be dedicated to video art. The videos, at the very heart of its programme, will be presented in screenings of programmes with several works, in exhibi- tions, autonomous installations, windows, and lounges.

Every year, in order to enrich its research and reflections, the Festival also gives carte blanche to local and international partners.

The selected videos can be showed in screenings, exhibitions, installations, etc.

This open call relates of course to our festival, but also to all the events that we organize or in which we participate throughout the year. Indeed, apart from its annual festival, L’Oeil d’Oodaaq implements and / or takes part in more than twenty events each year. By applying for this open call, you are submitting your work for Oodaaq Festival and / or for events offered by the associa- tion
throughout the year, in Brittany, nationally and internationally. Each broadcast is done in agreement with the artists, is framed by a contract and is the subject of a remuneration (calculated for 1 broadcast or on a lump sum basis).
