We invite submissions of short films (under 15 minutes) to appear as part of the Healthy Scepticism film festival. Submissions should offer some contemplation of the issues under consideration at the Healthy Scepticism project (here), and may do so in any the filmmaker sees fit. Submissions might explore, for example, the following kinds of questions: What are your or others’ experiences of health, illness, wellness, medicine, healthcare? What is your perspective on how our healthcare systems do and do not work? How do we currently think of ourselves as “ill” or “healthy,” and why? What role does media – including social media – have in our perceptions of health, wellness, illness and disease? How do personal encounters, family histories, ethnic, sexual and gender identities change our experiences of health and illness, of healthcare and healthcare systems? How has COVID-19 changed things for us in terms of how we understand health and its care?

We will feature the films of our finalists as part of our virtual film festival, and one overall winner will be featured in the festival, alongside an interview with the winning filmmaker. The winner will be chosen by an interdisciplinary panel of judges working across the content areas of the Healthy Scepticism project.

AFRICAN DIASPORA CINEMA FESTIVAL

FLORENCE, Italy

The fifth edition of the African Diaspora Cinema Festival is coming up on the 8th to 11th of september 2021 in the beautiful cultural city of florence at the prestigious Villa Romana.

ADCF’s vision is to raise awareness about Africa Cinema, its vast potentials and the socio-economic impact it has not only on african economies but gradually expanding to other parts of the world’s economy as well. Our aim is to use cinema to create a revolution that will change the social and economical horizon of Africa, by creating the way to the countless number of films produced in Africa and by the African diaspora filmmakers.

#African Cinema, is the theme of African Diaspora Cinema Festival, is a theme that draws on the principle that being African is a bond that goes beyond geography, birth or lineage; as people of African origin are spread across the globe and Africa is also proud home to many non-Africans. Africa has been able to capture the world’s attention through its ancient cultural heritage and beginnings of civilization. With films it will have the power to connect people from around the world.

Film is a powerful platform that is better able to attract and engage people in constructive activity and providing enjoyment, enlivening spaces and enriching lives. Film and art can lead to a better understanding and foster communication between peoples of diverse cultures, races, and lifestyles.

ADCF is rising from the ashes in a difficult moment in which cops of thousands of Africans flow like water in the mediterranean sea. In a moment of racial tolerance, in a moment people are not only rebelling about the lack of jobs, but equal opportunity and fairness before the law. Also in a moment our stories are not being heard nor told in public spaces.

Moscow International Experimental Film Festival

MIEFF is a platform for everyone who creates, takes interest in or otherwise engages with the moving images. Our main goal is to support Russian artists and introduce them to the international community, as well as help experimental cinema reach a wider audience.

We want to create spaces for dialogue and therefore we believe it important to enrich the intellectual context surrounding film and contemporary art instead of reducing it to univocal ideologies. This is achieved through a carefully curated program of screenings, public and educational events, where different viewpoints and voices are all welcome.

We also understand that if we want to be in tune with the ever-changing reality, we need to keep experimenting. Experiment for us is a method and not an empty label. We want to try different ways to organize horizontal teamwork, distribute responsibilities, and finance our whole endeavour. We want to find new opportunities for ethical partnerships and transparent communication with each other—and everyone who participates in the life of our festival.

At the moment, the festival structure includes international competition, Russian competition, retrospective section Close-Up, special screenings, curatorial multimedia block as well as an interdisciplinary educational programme called Extracurricular Practices.

MIEFF was founded in 2016 by Vladimir Nadein and Ekaterina Shitova. Now it operates as an independent non-commercial organization and is managed by the board, which includes (listed in the alphabetical order): Kristina Efremenko, Dmitry Frolov, Mariam Ismailova, Sophia Ismailova, Marianna Kruchinsky, Anna Naumova, Kirill Rozhentsov, and Margarita Sokolovskaya.
