Several cities around the world were redesigned at the beginning of the last century to host the automobile revolution. Many streets were reinvented to make room for motor vehicles, and the space for pedestrians in public space was rethought. As cars took over the city, the Lumière brothers experimented with the first film cameras and left us the first documentary on cycling races, depicting the Lyon – Geneva race of 1896.

The arrival of motor vehicles meant the reduction of distances, allowed the relocation of industries to the urban periphery and once again reorganized the urban map. Distances increased considerably and workers, attracted by better opportunities, populated popular neighborhoods outside the urban center. Public transport grew at this time in response to the need to move workers; however, the bicycle continued to be the queen of mobility, especially between wars. Losing a bicycle was a great drama, as we can see in Vittorio de Sica’s premiere, “Ladri di biciclette” (1948).

The periphery, the banlieue, the suburbs… are today often heirs of a manufacturing urban past, full of illusions and dreams of innovation. They are home to many migratory processes and the birthplace of new forms of urban culture. However, they are often poorly connected to the urban centre, making them separate islands from the city. Islands full of young creators who see audiovisuals as an excellent way to communicate, a medium for self-expression, and a great opportunity to overcome physical boundaries. The bicycle shortens distances and makes us physically experience the city with each pedal stroke. It is a tool to recover the city, think about the urban, and redesign the territory.

If the motor vehicle redesigned the 20th-century city, the bicycle redesigns the 21st-century city. Many cities have started to include or extend their network of bike paths, offer subsidies for the purchase of personal or cargo bikes, and more and more groups of amateur cyclists are emerging, thus creating more communities of interest. The bicycle plays an important role in active mobility, being an environmentally friendly means of transport and a way to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Still, as Barden would portray in 1955, relationships on the road aren’t always happy.

Cinema has portrayed these problems and many others related to mobility; stands out as an almost universal way of initiating dialogue about the urban, the territory, mobility and the way we live the city.

We invite the presentation of films that reflect on the following themes, or others in which the bicycle plays an important role in urban life in society:

– Shared bicycle practices
– Discover the city by bike
– The bicycle as a tool for working and experiencing the city
– Cycling communities
– Youth, territory and freedom on wheels
– Social justice, bicycles and the right to the city
– Environment and bicycles
– Daily bike commuting and community identities
– Minorities and bicycle
– Periphery and cycling
– Bike & sports

We believe that genre cinema has not lost the power to move us, inspire us and at the same time offer us readings and interpretations of our own reality. The Insólito Festival also has the mission of being an exhibition window for new and diverse voices of terror and fantasy, bringing them closer to new and exciting audiences.

Another journey into the fantastic and unknown begins. Unusual: International Fantastic Film Festival announces the call for its fifth edition.

Our first four editions obtained good comments from the public and the press; This does nothing more than renew Insólito's commitment to show Peruvian viewers the best genre cinema that has been made worldwide: horror, fantasy, science fiction, exploitation, and everything that challenges the most conventional ways of seeing and make movies

Due to the current conditions caused by Covid-19, this edition will have a mixed format, in order to continue inviting the community of new viewers that virtuality made possible, but also retaking our physical spaces for the face-to-face.

Celaya Experimental Film Fest is a platform for creation and exhibition of experimental films. Works focused on technical, conceptual and narrative experimentation. The festival welcomes artists who have transgressed and transcended the barriers of aesthetics, technique, and the semiticity to break the dominant standards in the industry. We believe that experimental cinema is free, radical and purposeful and that at the same time it responds to the anthropological, social, artistic and philosophical need to explore horizons beyond the great hegemonic forms of cinematographic creation, and finding authentic ways of creating audiovisual art.

Celaya Experimental Film Fest opens its international submissions to all artists with original or personal proposals that go beyond conventional standards, exploring the limits of cinematographic language and searching for an essence or unitary mark within any work of their authorship.

The second edition of CELAYA EXPERIMENTAL FILM FEST will take place in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico from September 1 to 10, 2022, with the most outstanding selection and impressive audiovisual films within our festival, and with a specialized jury who will be in charge of awarding the films that accomplish its proposals to show experimental cinema as a discipline.

MALDITO Video Poetry Festival launch this contest with the purpose to show two disciplines that, either individually or collectively, are much more isolated and forgotten as we would like. According to our experience, these disciplines are considered marginal and minor in the extent of the great European capitals, moreover in the humble towns within regional borders where its dissemination is nonexistent.

MALDITO Crew, as lovers of poetry, image and the expressive possibilities of its symbiosis, picks up the baton and propose to continue the line of action; willing to arouse interest in the Festival, reaching out to the general public and making this event great since the very beginning.

Not only MALDITO aims to be influent and popular amongst the mass and social media, but also want to be a reference. MALDITO seeks to vindicate video poetry as an art that connects people, transmits feelings and stimulates different ways to see the world. It is also a tiny contribution of enormous people to empower visual art, stopping it from being marginal and damned*

The Santiago International Documentary Film Festival (FIDOCS) is the main broadcasting, diffusion, and competition event for documentary cinema in Chile and Latin America.
Focused on the promotion of dialogue and reflection, as well as in training audiences towards the appreciation of documentary film in a context of permanent transformation, FIDOCS seeks to explore the multiple paths available in documentary making as well as in the drifts proper to nonfiction works. In its program, FIDOCS incorporates the works of both experienced and emerging directors in order to address the question of “THE REAL”, and in doing so, it considers the various dimensions, disciplinary frontiers, and tensions that the question “what is real?”, as well as the documentary genre itself, has to offer us.

Throughout its history, FIDOCS has positioned itself as one of the most distinguished documentary film festivals in Latin America, standing as a privileged platform to screen contemporary cinema and to promote critical thinking. Year by year, under its selective curatorial approach, FIDOCS not only calls for important exponents of national and international audiovisual sectors to exhibit their work in Santiago, but also, in using this city as a film hub, it calls on such exponents to question, interpret, and re-write the status of contemporary documentary film practice today.

For the promotion, positioning, and exhibition of Chilean and International films, FIDOCS displays three main competitions. These sections include: INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION; CHILEAN COMPETITION, and EMERGENT SHORT COMPETITION FOR NATIONAL FILMS.

In addition, FIDOCS has the main industry activity, FIDOCS FIRST CUT, for national and Latin-American works in progress where the jury (editors, directors, sound designers, producers, programmers), in addition to choosing a winner, feeds the filmmakers to carry out the post-production of their films and encourage their diffusion and transmission. This section is jointly run together with WIP section of CHILEDOC CONECTA.

The festival also includes important training and extension activities, such as ESCUELA FIDOCS, where the most prominent film school students from Santiago receive private exhibition classes from the main festival’s international guests; Master Classes open to the public; FIDOCS editions, among others. Moreover, given its interdisciplinary scope, FIDOCS also seeks to accompany the screening of documentaries with other artistic interventions, such as installation works, exhibitions, performances, or theater plays, all of which are in constant dialogue with the notion of the documentary itself by their own expressive means.

It should be noted that in 2022, FIDOCS will be held in a hybrid way, with face-to-face screenings if sanitary conditions allow it. The industry activities and Escuela FIDOCS will be online.

The RELLISQUÍN FESTIVAL is an audiovisual exhibition that wants to reflect on the relationship between the city and its neighbors. We look for projects that talk about life in cities: protest movements, struggles to preserve historical memory, urban transformations and changes, social demands and the experiences of neighbors with their environment.

We are looking for projects that understand the audiovisual as a tool of struggle, denunciation and testimony of realities in danger of disappearing. We want to vindicate the critical, committed and cooperative spirit, making known aspects that concern society and that are not sufficiently covered in commercial medias, cinemas and the usual distribution channels. We want to show national or international works about historical, social, political and activist consciousness, personal relationships and human rights in a city.
