The Boston Science Fiction Film Festival is an 11-day cinematic event held at the historic Somerville Theatre from February 9th to the 19th. The 2018 edition marks our 43rd anniversary as the oldest science fiction film festival.
The first nine days is a traditional film festival. Films submitted and curated from around the world are screened, whether they be features, shorts, or webisodes. Plus we have workshops, parties or anything else that seems appropriate. Here at BostonSciFi we emphasize emerging directors with distinct visions.
The Festival concludes with The Marathon, a.k.a., “The ‘Thon”, a 24-hour orgiastic motion picture endurance test featuring classic, new and schlock films. Think of it as binge viewing with 750 close friends. It starts at noon on the 18th and ends at noon on President’s Day.
Boston SciFi is the oldest genre fest in the country and one of the oldest in the world. Being in Boston has many advantages, it is a world class city. Boston is one of the world’s best college towns (hello Harvard, MIT, BU, BC, Tufts and more). As such, BostonSciFi endeavors to reflect all of that in the festival. Then toss in, we are housed in the classic 1914 Somerville Theatre in the almost too hip Davis Square, and you can see why FilmFreeway touted us as one of the Top 100 Film Festivals.

Event runs for 4 hours, with a big networking party going on in the lobby area. News outlets and press are active at this event. Celebrities from all walks of life have shown up at this event. We are only accepting online screeners. There are a variety of ways to submit your screener to us (YouTube, Vimeo, or through one of the online submission services). This will SAVE YOU MONEY!

Voces Contra el Silencio, Video Independiente A.C., a Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, com o apoio da TV UNAM e do Arquivo Cinematográfico da UNAM, convidam cineastas a participarem da décima quarta edição do Encontro Hispano-Americano Independente de Cinema Documentário e Vídeo: Contra el Silencio Todas las Voces, a ser realizado de 4 a 12 de setembro de 2026, na Cidade do México e em diferentes estados do República Mexicana, em formato híbrido.
O principal objetivo do Contra el Silencio Todas las Voces é servir como uma janela que reúne o cinema documental independente do México, da América Latina e da Espanha, por meio de espaços gratuitos, acessíveis e abertos que abraçam uma diversidade de perspectivas, incentivam a ação coletiva e promovem redes colaborativas em apoio ao desenvolvimento do gênero documental e à construção de uma sociedade mais justa, igualitária e tolerante.
Contra el Silencio Todas las Voces explorou novas alternativas de exibição audiovisual, alcançando com sucesso públicos que nunca havia imaginado. Por esse motivo, nesta décima terceira edição, decidiu manter um formato híbrido que consiste em: atividades presenciais em vários locais alternativos de exibição de filmes; conteúdo sob demanda na plataforma MXPLUS; e transmissões em canais públicos de televisão na Cidade do México (Canal 11, Canal 21, Canal 22 e TV UNAM), bem como em canais públicos em outros estados do país. Dublin Doc Fest is an exciting short documentary film festival showcasing work from both Irish & International documentary filmmakers in Dublin, Ireland. Founded in 2013 by award winning documentary filmmaker, Tess Motherway, Dublin Doc Fest's objective is to provide a unique platform for short documentary film in Ireland & to place Dublin firmly on the map as an international destination for documentary film.
Our objective is to exhibit short documentary film in innovatively repurposed and non-traditional screening spaces across Dublin city. The 11th edition of the One World Romania International Human Rights & Documentary Festival will take place between March 16 and March 25, 2018 in Bucharest. One World Romania is the first documentary film festival established in Bucharest as well as the only Romanian festival dedicated to human rights.
We invite you to submit your latest documentaries on any topic related to human rights. Short, medium, feature length as well as interactive documentaries, with any target audience, including children and adolescents, are accepted.
