PUFA - Pucela Fantastic is a fantastic and horror film festival for short and feature films of any nationality that are assigned to the fantasy genre, science fiction, horror, fantasy, thriller, suspense...

A Jury made up of professionals related to cinema, performing arts and/or communication will choose the winning works. In addition, the public attending the screenings will choose the audience awards by voting with a ballot. No prize may be declared void.

The following recognitions will be determined:
Best Feature Film (Trophy).
Best Director of a Feature Film (Diploma).
Best Feature Film Screenplay (Diploma)
Best Male Performance in a Feature Film (Diploma).
Best Female Performance in a Feature Film (Diploma).
Best Short Film (Trophy).
Best Short Film Direction (Diploma).
Best Short Film Screenplay (Diploma).
Best Male Performance in a Short Film (Diploma).
Best Female Performance in a Short Film (Diploma).
Audience Award for Best Feature Film (Trophy).
Audience Award for Best Short Film (Trophy).

The awards are honorary although the inclusion of financial awards is currently being negotiated with the sponsors, which, if applicable, will be duly notified.

The Jury undertakes not to publicly express their considerations regarding the selection of films for which they have to issue their rulings. The festival management may be present, with voice, but without vote, in the deliberations and communications of the Jury. Furthermore, the Jury will reserve the possibility of granting special mentions (with a diploma) to highlight technical and artistic aspects of the films in competition. The awards may be shared (ex aequo) in a maximum of one category.

GENERIC CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

Productions may be submitted in Spanish or any other language, as long as they have subtitles inserted in Spanish (preferred) or English or an .srt file with synchronized subtitles is attached, otherwise the short or the film will be disqualified.

Any natural person over 18 years of age or any legal entity may participate and/or compete, regardless of their nationality.

The deadline for receiving viewing copies will be April 30, 2024.

SPECIFIC CONDITIONS FOR SHORT FILMS

The Selection Committee will take into consideration only short films that meet the following conditions:

Production date: Authors may present as many works as they consider appropriate, as long as their production date is 2023 or 2024 and they have not participated in previous editions of PUFA - Pucela Fantástica. Your participation in other festivals will not be exclusive. The Festival reserves the right to program, out of competition, short films from previous years.

Duration: Short films submitted may not exceed 20 minutes in length. The festival reserves the right to make exceptions for special or out-of-competition screenings.

Format: Regardless of the format in which they have been recorded (digital/celluloid), the short films will be sent to the Festival for screening only by digital means (DCP, MOV, MP4, etc.) and online. The Festival reserves the right to make specific exceptions to these rules.

SPECIFIC CONDITIONS FOR FEATURE FILMS

The Selection Committee will take into consideration only feature films that meet the following conditions:

Production date: All feature films whose final production date is 2023 or 2024 may participate, as long as they have not been released in commercial theaters or digital platforms in Spain prior to the Festival. Participation in other film festivals or platforms will not be exclusive, although priority will be given to the unpublished nature of the films presented in Spain. The Festival organization reserves the right to program, out of competition, feature films from previous years or that have been exhibited commercially.

Duration: Feature films submitted must have a minimum duration of 60 minutes, with no restrictions regarding their maximum duration. The festival reserves the right to make exceptions for out-of-competition screenings.

OTHER GENERAL CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

Those titles that are selected will receive confirmation from the PUFA - Pucela Fantástica organization in order to formalize their participation. The company or individual that provides the short/feature film for participation in the Festival must provide sufficient advertising material (photos, posters, press kits, trailer, clips, etc.) so that the organization can promote the film adequately. These promotional materials will not be returned and will become part of the Festival archive.

The producers and/or distributors of the selected films (short films and feature films) authorize, by accepting their participation, the use of these materials for dissemination in any media, social networks or institutional presentation. For these purposes, it is recommended that production companies and/or distributors also make available to the Festival's Press Department a selection of sequences with a maximum duration of three minutes.

The registration of a film in the Festival implies full acceptance and compliance with these Participation Rules and their possible Annexes. Once the selection of a film has been made and communicated by the Festival, and participation has been confirmed by the producer/distributor that made the registration, it may not be withdrawn from the programming under any circumstances.

SELECTION OF WORKS

-The Selection Committee will announce before May 31, 2024 the works (short films and feature films) selected to be part of the competition and parallel sections of the festival. In exceptional cases, the festival may extend the date of these communications.

-All selected works (short films/feature films) must incorporate the PUFA - Pucela Fantástica laurel in the copy to be projected.

-The selection of a feature film or short film to participate in any of the sections DOES NOT INVOLVE THE INVITATION (transfer, accommodation and/or meals) to the representatives themselves (distributor, director, artistic or technical team, etc.). The assignment of an award will not imply said invitation to attend the festival, however, the organization reserves the right to invite any of the participants.

SHIPPING OF WORKS

The copy to be screened of the selected short and feature films must be available to the PUFA - Pucela Fantástica organization before June 15, 2024. With the aim of reducing the carbon footprint as much as possible, the festival will request projection files that can be sent by digital means (DCP, MOV, MP4, etc.) and, in cases where the language of the dialogues is not Spanish, duly synchronized subtitles in that language must be attached. In exceptional cases and at the discretion of the Festival organization, other media may be accepted, but the Festival will not assume any cost for receiving or sending physical copies. The shipping costs (transportation and insurance policy) caused by the sending and return of the copies, as well as their storage, will be borne exclusively by the production companies or persons responsible for the registration of the short/feature film.

The short/feature films screened at the Festival will have to be identical in duration, content and title to those initially presented for selection; any unjustified modification may lead to the disqualification of the work.

The festival reserves the right to not accept copies that, after the necessary technical checks, are not suitable for projection. A new copy may be requested from the representatives and/or authors and if, for a reason beyond the control of the organization, the screening copy cannot arrive in time for its exhibition, the organization may replace the title with another.

PROGRAMMING

The PUFA - Pucela Fantástica 2024 will be held during the month of July 2024 at the Broadway Cinemas in Valladolid. The Festival will decide the number of times and the time in which each short/feature film will be screened, notifying its authors in advance. The dates of the event may vary depending on organizational needs and, where appropriate, changes would be promptly communicated to those selected.

ATTENDANCE TO THE FESTIVAL IN CASE OF BEING SELECTED AND/OR AWARDED

If the director of the selected short/feature resides in Castilla y León, it will be an essential condition that he or someone from the team, presents the work to the public and participates in the subsequent discussion on the day of the screening. The organization will make all the facilities at its disposal so that the representative can attend.

If the director of the selected short/feature resides in Spain and cannot attend the screening, it will be an essential condition that he or someone from the team, sends a short video to present his work. If awarded, someone from the team must be present at the closing gala. The organization will make all the facilities available so that the director or a representative can attend. If not, the prize will be rejected.

If the director of the short/feature does not reside in Spain, it will be an essential condition that he or someone from the team, sends a video presentation of the work. If you are awarded, a thank you video will be sent to be shown at the closing gala. If not, the prize will be rejected.

LEGAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The authors will be solely responsible for their works (short films/feature films) in terms of copyright and/or civil, criminal or any other type of liability or jurisdictional and/or administrative order derived from their content.

ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES

Participation in the PUFA - Pucela Fantástica implies acceptance of these Rules and possible Annexes. Any unexpected circumstance that arises during the Festival and that is not contemplated in these Rules will be decided by the organization of the event. The Participation Rules may be complemented or modified prior to the start date of this edition of the PUFA - Pucela Fantástica, with prior communication to the interested parties.
