“La Axarquía Film Festival”, annual and unique in the Andalusian audiovisual scene, will take place in the region of La Axarquía, Málaga, Spain.

Its main objective is to bring cinema and its production closer to rural municipalities with less than 5,000 inhabitants in the Axarquía, promoting these territories as cultural tourist destinations.

There where the cinema does not reach, where the nearest theater is in a shopping center kilometers away and where people nostalgically remember the cinemas of yesteryear where neighbors and families gathered around the big screen, "La Axarquía Film Festival" wants to turn the streets, squares and churches of these towns into outdoor film festivals.

The Festival will have its Opening Gala in Almáchar, where the works that will compete in the different official sections and the programming and activities and workshops that will take place during the Festival will be announced. With an itinerant program in the municipalities hosting the Festival. The municipality where the Closing Gala will be held will be announced shortly, in which the works awarded by the juries of the different sections will be announced and the awards of the different sections of the Festival contest will be delivered.

The screenings will take place, as far as possible, in open-air public spaces. The idea is to recover the festive atmosphere of the festivals of the past, combining them with the magic of summer cinemas. Chairs, banners, bars outside the bars, red carpets around the squares. The Festival dresses the entire town in celebration to welcome all the residents in a unique and unrepeatable event.

"Axarquía Film Festival" seeks to consolidate itself as a showcase for new works and second works by new directors and directors from all over Spain and the region..

The official awards of the festival will be:

Official Short Film Section: "Best Short Film Award" endowed with 500 euros and trophy.

Axarquia Short Film Section (four in total): "Audiovisual Talent Award" consisting of an artistic residency during the year 2024 to develop audiovisual projects. The filmmakers will participate for one week in a program of consultancies by a team of film industry professionals aimed at improving the narrative and aesthetic quality of the projects under development, implement the tools to create an appropriate marketing, promotion and audience creation plan and enhance their opportunities by establishing links with professionals and potential European and Latin American co-producers. All travel, accommodation and living expenses will be covered by "La Axarquía Festival de Cine". "

1. Place and Date:

1.1 "La Axarquía Film Festival" will take place from October 6 to 23, 2023.

1.2 It has an itinerant program in the municipalities that host the Festival. All the activities and projections that take place within the framework of the Festival are FREE and NON-PROFIT.

2. Objectives

2.1 The main objective of "La Axarquía Film Festival" is to bring cinema and its production closer to rural municipalities of less than 5,000 inhabitants of the Axarquía, promoting these territories as cultural tourist destinations.

2.2 Specific objectives:

Bring the audiovisual to those rural areas where movies are not seen or made.

Promote the Axarquía region as a film set and production site.

Promote cultural diversity through training and promotion of new audiovisual projects.

Support the emerging creative initiative of contemporary audiovisual works, especially those made in the Axarquía region.

Promote the creation of social links between the rural municipalities of the region.

Promote cooperative relations between the public sector, private sector and civil society.

3. Conditions of Participation:

3.1 There will be no production date limit.

3.2 Fiction, documentary and animation genre works will be accepted.

3.3 The maximum duration of the works will not exceed 30 minutes.

3. 4 There is no maximum limit of works per participant/s.

3.5 The producers of the selected short films authorize the use of a fragment of the works of up to a maximum of 20% of their total duration, for their possible dissemination as advertising for the event in the media.

3.6 The Organization may exhibit the selected works in the places and times it deems appropriate, always with the prior authorization of their owners and only for non-profit cultural purposes.

4. Categories:

4.1 The organization establishes the following categories:

Official short film section: Open to all films that do not exceed thirty minutes in length, produced or co-produced in Spain, of any genre, theme or narrative.

Axarquía short film section: This section is committed to becoming a first screen for all those independent short films of any genre, theme or narrative produced or co-produced in the Axarquía region that do not have projection rooms.

5. Registration:

5.1 Registration:

The registration period to participate in "La Axarquía Film Festival" will open on July 20, 2023 and will remain open until September 10, 2023.

Registration can be done in three ways:

- Full name and surname of the filmmaker or those responsible for the film
- Title, genre and duration of the film
- Specify whether or not you are registered in the Axarquía region
- Private movie viewing link and password

5.2 A committee of experts in audiovisual arts will be in charge of advising the selection process of the short films that are presented.

5.3 All films that do not exceed 30 minutes in length, first works or second works, produced or co-produced in Spain, regardless of genre, theme or narrative, may compete.

5.4 Works of a promotional, advertising or corporate nature will be excluded.

5.5. "La Axarquía Film Festival" is committed to production projects that move away from conventional formats, that are committed to new narratives and that rescue the cultural and social values ​​of the region.

5.6 The juries will be made up of professionals from the film industry from different professional categories with a proven track record and recognition.

5.7 The period for the reception of the works will open to the publication of these bases and will close on September 10, 2023 at 00:00 (GMT+2), excluding all those works received after said date.

5.8 Once a film has been selected for the different competitive sections, it cannot be withdrawn by its producers or managers.

5.9 The presentation of films itself implies full and unreserved acceptance of these regulations.

5.10 The festival will recognize the person registering the film in the festival as the interlocutor to negotiate aspects related to the participation of said film and as the only person responsible before other companies or people who may have participated in the production of the film.

5.11 The signed bases 2023 must be attached to the registration.

6. Selection:

6.1 Selection Committee:

A selection committee will be in charge of choosing the films that will participate in the in-competition and out-of-competition sections. The decisions of the committee will be final. Once the registration is done, you will not be able to withdraw the participation of the film.

The selection committee will be appointed by the organization of the contest. People who have interests in the production and/or exploitation of the films presented may not be part of the jury. Its ruling will be final and will be made public through the media, as well as via x to the winners.

6.2 Exhibition rights:
Participation in the Festival will grant it the right to exhibit the selected films, for which the participants assign the public communication rights of their films for their exhibition during the festival for the number of projections agreed with the festival organization.

The films selected for the competition will not receive any financial compensation in terms of rights for their screening within the exclusive framework of the festival.

The confirmation by the producers or representatives of the selected film means that they will not be able to withdraw it from the programming and the irrevocable acceptance of all the rules required by the Organization and Management of the Festival.

The programming of "La Axarquía Film Festival", the projection formats and projection times are the exclusive responsibility of the Festival Organization.

7. Awards:

7.1 The selected works will compete for the following prizes:

With the aim of strengthening the production and distribution of the first or second works by emerging new directors, "La Axarquía Film Festival" contemplates cash prizes and prizes for the development and promotion of new creations.

- The winning work of the Official Short Film Section will receive the "Best Short Film Award" endowed with 500 euros and a trophy.

- The winning works (4 in total) of the Axárquica Short Film Section will receive the "Award for Audiovisual Talent" consisting of an artist residency during the year 2024 to develop audiovisual projects.

The filmmakers will participate for a week in a consulting program led by a team of professionals from the film industry aimed at improving the narrative and aesthetic quality of the projects under development, implementing the tools to create an adequate marketing plan, promotion and creation of audiences and enhance their opportunities by establishing links with professionals and potential European and Latin American co-producers.

All travel, accommodation and living expenses will be borne by “La Axarquía Film Festival”. The objective is to increase the professionalization of the creation and development phases of audiovisual projects by filmmakers from Axarquía, thus promoting an incipient but prolific film industry in the region.

7.2 Prize money:

Cash prizes are subject to withholding according to current tax legislation in the Spanish State. The amounts established by current tax regulations in Spain will be withheld from the gross amount of the prizes. Cash prizes are subject to a withholding of 21% of their full amount.

7.3 The jury may award the special mentions it deems, being able to declare any type of contest void. The prizes may not be awarded 'ex aequo' or remain void.

7.4 The rights holders of films that have received an award undertake to mention it in all advertising and press material, respecting the exact wording of the jury's decision and using the Festival logo. This logo can be requested from the organization of the festival.

7.5 The Festival may use the short films sent in collaboration with other events and always without economic purposes, notifying and requesting the permission of the rights guarantors.

8. Selected short films:

8.1 The festival will notify the projects of its decision on September 21, 2023.

8.2 The invitation of each film selected by the Festival will be strictly confidential between its Management and the producers or representatives of each of the invited films until the Festival decides to announce it officially and publicly.

8.3 The selected short films must deliver the following materials no later than September 25, 2023 at 00:00 (GMT+2):

Director and production biofilmography (max. 10 lines)
Technical and artistic sheet
Synopsis in Spanish (max. 3 lines)
Photo of Direction and Production in good resolution
Short film poster
3 promotional photographs of the short film in good resolution
3 Stills from the short film
Trailer (optional)
Making off (optional)

9. Others

9.1 The participants authorize "La Axarquía Film Festival" to use extracts from the films for dissemination in any media. Likewise, the Festival may use photographs of the short film, of the director and producer for the preparation of the Festival catalogue, as well as give them to the written press and other media.

The Festival Management may withdraw at any time the film that does not comply with any of the rules of these Regulations. Likewise, the falsification of the production data may lead to its withdrawal from the different competitive sections if it had been selected for any of them.

Sending a short film to "La Axarquía Film Festival" for possible selection implies acceptance of these regulations.
