IMAXINARIA IS AN INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FILM FESTIVAL THAT TAKES PLACE IN THE CITY OF A CORUÑA, SPONSORED BY AFUNDACIÓN

A project that seeks to promote and showcase non-commercial animated films to the general audience. The festival was also created as a meeting point for professionals in the animation industry, in which Galicia has a wide and recognized innovative tradition. The festival is directed by Matilde Rodríguez, curator of the International Exhibition of Contemporary Illustration (MiiC), and filmmaker Alberto Vázquez, a leading figure in current animation and winner of several national and international awards.

CULTURE X FOOD

IMAXINARIA is part of Afundación's "Culture for Food" programme. An initiative that appeals to the participation of citizens and gives answer to the call for solidarity of the local Food Banks. Therefore, the tickets to the festival are free in exchange for non-perishable food. This social commitment is also reflected in the festival's own contents.

The Fundación Galicia Obra Social, with tax identification number G70270293 and registered office at Cantón Grande 8, 15003, A Coruña; "Afundación", hereinafter, is the promoter of the IMAXINARIA festival and the corresponding contest, aimed at rewarding cinematic works according to the following:

>> Rules:

GENERAL CONDITIONS

- The 2nd edition of IMAXINARIA will take place at the Afundación headquarters in A Coruña (Cantón Grande 8) from 6 to 10 March 2024.

- Participation is open to Galician, national and international filmmakers. There is no registration fee.

- Only short films released after 1 January 2023 are eligible for submission through this online platform. While it’s not mandatory for shorts to premiere at the festival, IMAXINARIA will positively consider those that are unpublished in Spain.

- Each author or company may submit as many short films as they wish, regardless of nationality and language. However, each film must be registered independently.

- The organisation will only accept works that align with the definition of animation provided by the International Animated Film Association - ASIFA: "The art of animation involves the creation of animated images using various techniques other than live action" (asifa.net). Films combining live action and animation may be accepted, as long as the animation represents at least 70% of the film’s duration.

- The duration of the films should not exceed 30 minutes (credit titles included).

- Commercial and advertising films will be ineligible.

REGISTRATION

- The registration deadline is 31 January 2024.

- No registration fee is required.

- Registration must be done online through the Festhome platform.

- For short films in languages other than Galician or Spanish, subtitles in english or at least one of these languages are mandatory for registration and viewing.

FINAL SELECTION

- For the final screening, the following formats are accepted: .mov (H.264, ProRes 422 and ProRes 444), or .mp4 (H.264), native resolution and frame rate, via the Internet.

- subtitle format: List of dialogues and/or texts in Galician, Spanish or english: .srt file with time code. Copies with embedded subtitles in languages other than Galician or Spanish will not be accepted.

- By registering a work and thereby unequivocally accepting these terms, the owners of the selected short films grant authorisation for their screening at the festival and specified screenings organised by the festival during that week.

- The owners of the selected short films also grant Afundación the right to screen these works—exclusively for cultural and non-commercial purposes—throughout the year following the festival in various extraordinary activities held outside the official week. This use primarily refers to potential itinerant sessions (winning films or other selections). In any case, these potential screenings will always be communicated to the owner of the work and will always be free of charge for the audience.

CATEGORIES AND awards

- The Official Programme will be made up of 5 general sections and 1 children’s section.

- The decision to place a work in a specific section is at the discretion of the organisation, regardless of its previous registration.

- The awards are as follows:

Imaxinaria Grand Prix: €1,500
Jury Prize: €1,000
Children’s Jury Award: €500
Audience Award: €500
Territorio Award (Best Galician/Spanish short film): €500

- Award amounts are subject to applicable taxes and Spanish law regulations. The amounts expressed in these rules are gross and relevant income tax withholdings will be applied.

- The organisation reserves the right to limit or expand the categories and prizes, as well as the amounts.

- The jury will be composed of experienced professionals in the animation sector, and their decision will be final.

- The jury may choose not to award prizes in a category or grant special mentions without a designated monetary reward.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

- Participation in the festival grants television channels the right to broadcast excerpts of the films (10%, with a duration of no more than two minutes). This clause extends to internet media and the festival’s and Afundación’s social networks.

- The organisation will also publish graphic material with information about the short films included in the programme.

- Participants are assumed to own the rights to the works they submit. In any case, the organisation cannot be held responsible for any possible infringements.

- The festival organisation (or its legal representatives) will resolve all cases not specified within the terms of these rules and may grant special dispensation for specific and justified requests.

- The organisation reserves the right to alter, modify or cancel the programme of this edition at any time.

- Owners of the works will sign any necessary documents related to the transfer of rights and/or the protection of personal data required by the entity promoting the festival.

- Participation in the festival implies the acceptance of all the terms outlined in this agreement.
