The HFF is the first short film festival in Hendaye. Since its creation in 2013, on the initiative of the association Begiradak, this Festival focuses on the distribution of films that value differences (both linguistically and culturally and socially):

The presented works can participate and be judged by a jury of recognized professionals of the sector.

An international official section.

In addition, short films and documentaries out of competition will be presented in the context of a focus, a tribute, a previews or exceptional sessions.-------------------------------------------------

El HFF es el primer festival de cortometrajes en Hendaya. Desde su creación en 2013, por iniciativa de la asociación Begiradak, este Festival se centra en la distribución de películas que valoran las diferencias (tanto lingüísticas como culturales y sociales):

Los trabajos presentados pueden participar y ser juzgados por un jurado de reconocidos profesionales del sector.

Una sección oficial internacional.

Además, cortometrajes y documentales fuera de concurso se presentarán en el contexto de un enfoque, un homenaje, una vista previa o sesiones excepcionales.

The Jury, composed of professionals, will award the international prize for the best international short film international.

HENDAIA FILM FESTIVAL will take place in Hendaye (France) from 17 to 20 October 2024 at Les Variétés cinema and Mendi Zolan space

The Festival's main objectives are to:

Promote cultural, social and linguistic diversity.

Spread films with subtitles in Spanish and French.

To raise public awareness, especially young people, of the process of filmmaking and image reading around debates and meetings with authors and professionals.

Promote promotion, production and distribution of short films.
 
1. PROGRAMMING

The Hendaia Film Festival's programming consists of:

An official international selection of short films presented in competition.

Films selected in competition will be programmed at most twice during the Festival.

The selection will only take into account short fiction, under no circumstances documentaries and animations.

The Festival management will decide the dates and times of the screening of each film.

The Festival pays no rental fees on films presented in competition.

2. ADMISSION CONDITIOIN

The selection committee, under the authority of the Delegate General, selects and invites the selected films. Unless there is a waiver, only films that meet the following criteria can be presented in competition:

- Produced after June 2023

Be presented in an original version (version in which the film will be shown in its country of origin).

To be subtitled in French and Spanish (translation and captioning costs are the responsibility of the producers, directors or authorized organizations), two STO versions.

Be broadcast in DCP (Digital Cinema Package file JPEG 2000 DCI standard), and IN MP4, two different formats to deliver to the festival.

The film should not be over 20 minutes, including the credits.

The signed registration form in lieu of engagement, accompanied by the DVD pre-selection copy (copy of the final version of the film), must be sent to the Hendaye Festival by June 30, 2024).

Nationality - This section is open to all nationalities

3. INSCRIPTION CONDITIONS FOR COURTS-MÉTRAGES IN COMPÉTITION

INSCRIPTION IN FESTIVAL IS FREE

Registrationises are open from December 19, 2024 to June 15, 2024.

Registration implies full acceptance and compliance with the terms and provisions of this regulation.

Films should have social and cultural differences and diversity as their theme. 

A DVD or download link is required in all selections. 

The submission of the material for the screening must be done:

By mail with the words "for cultural use only - no market value" or by courier (DHL, Federal Express) by declaring on the pro forma commercial bill a value of less than 15 USD, with the word "for cultural use only - no market value".

Any equipment sent by an express transport company must have been paid for all transport costs and any customs duties and taxes.

WARNING DVDs are NOT RETURNED TO THE RIGHT.

DVDs of the films offered for selection are kept by the festival in order to form a short film media library in the Hendaia Film Festival association. Films kept in this association will not be subject to public screenings without the written consent of the rights holders of the film and under specific conditions. Only free and individual consultation will be permitted, under the responsibility of the festival that is the custodian of the fund. In the event of a refusal by the rights holders to make available the DVD of the film as part of the association the rights holders will have to accompany their registration with a simple letter of refusal to the letter of the rights holders.

4. COURT-MÉTRAGES COMPÉTITION COMPÉTITIONS

The Festival Jury, composed of professionals, will award the international prize for best international short film as well as the prize for best male performance, best female performance, the prize for best screenplay, and special mentions, and the prize for original music in partnership with the UCMF (www.ucmf.fr), the prize for best photography and the prize for best screenplay awarded by the Asociacion de los Guionistas Vascos (https://www.gidoi.com).

The public will vote for the Audience Award.
 
5. OBLIGATIONS

After signing the registration form, no film can be removed from the selection. The director, producer and distributor of the selected films undertake to make available to the festival the copy of the film for the duration of the event, as well as at the disposal of its partner the City of Arguedas (Navarre, Spain) which resumes the full selection one week after the Hendaia Film Festival and the Cinematheque of Pamplona (Navarre, Spain).

The director, producer and distributor of the selected films agree to provide the festival with a security copy with French and Spanish subtitles (i.e. 2 copies) for the duration of the event.

The director, producer and distributor of the award-winning films agree to include the full wording of the Award and the "Hendaia Film Festival" on the credits and all advertising and promotional material.

The Festival thanks the producers of the films in competition for notifying them of a possible distribution of their film in France.

6. TRANSPORT AND INSURANCE OF COPIES OF FILMS

The final copy of the films selected for the competition must reach the only forwarder accredited by the Festival before August 15, 2024, with the words "Hendaia Film Festival". This delay is imperative, at the following address:

Only copies in perfect projection condition will be accepted. The costs of transporting copies and all related charges, including import and export taxes, are entirely the responsibility of producers, directors or shippers for both the day and the return.

The Festival pays for the shopping and insurance costs of selected films in the official venues of the Festival's screenings in Hendaye.

In the event of the loss or damage of a copy, the festival's liability may only be incurred within the limit of the value indicated on the film's registration form.

7. AUTHOR RIGHTS, MEDIA, TELEVISION AND SITE INTERNET

Selected films remain the intellectual property of copyright holders. The rights holders of the films cede to the festival without consideration the right to reproduce the photographs or TV excerpts (less than 3 minutes) of their films for distribution in publications and on the festival website, in the press and on television channels. Participants and rights holders claim to have the full rights to the exploitation of the works, including musical rights.


8. GUESTS

The directors of the selected films are invited by the festival on the following bases:

Meals are supported on the screening dates of the selected film for a consecutive two-day period.

The director will have to take charge of his accommodation and transport.

The festival guests present at the presentation of their film may also be asked for meetings with students from local schools or to participate in professional roundtables, or by the press.

9. HENDAIA FILM FESTIVAL

The Hendaia Film Festival association and its general delegate have the power to resolve all cases not foreseen in this regulation. They alone have the power to authorize any decision that does not correspond to the entire regulation.

10. IN LITIGES

Applications to participate in the competition involve the full acceptance of this regulation, written in French and Spanish. In the event of a dispute, only the French version will be authentic. The festival organization reserves the right to grant possible exemptions in order to settle cases not provided for by this regulation. In the event of a major problem beyond its control, the festival organization reserves the right to modify or cancel the event.
