FIC RIO (International Short Film Festival in Rio de Janeiro) is a film festival for independent filmmakers from all over the world and for short films produced in any year.

After the great reach and success of the first edition, we came back even stronger and willing to take independent cinema to an even larger audience.

In addition to offering an alternative to the experience of commercial cinema, FIC RIO aims to celebrate independence, creativity and diversity in the Seventh Art, giving voice and space to independent filmmakers and their works, within the genres of fiction, documentary, animation.

The exhibition of our second edition will take place between the 25th and 30th of April 2022, still fully online.

With three new categories, Best LGBTQIA+ Film, Best Music Video and Best Micro Short (1 to 5 minutes), the 2nd FIC RIO will award a total of 27 categories.

*1. REQUIREMENTS

1.1 Film entries will be accepted in the fiction, documentary and animation genres, captured in digital format, with a maximum duration of 30 minutes (including the opening and/or closing credits).

1.2 Video clips captured in digital format, with a maximum duration of 10 minutes (including initial and/or final credits) will be accepted.

1.3 Works produced in any year can be entered.

1.4 There is no premiere policy for films or video clips, they may have been shown at other Festivals.

1.5 Films or video clips with an advertising and/or institutional character will not be accepted.

1.6 For submission purposes, international films can be in any language. However, the film must have subtitles in English or Portuguese (preferably).

*two. REGISTRATIONS

2.1 Registration will take place online, EXCLUSIVELY through the digital platform Festhome, from 09/01/2021 to 11/30/2021.

2.2 All registered films, national and international, must pay a registration fee, through the Festhome platform, with the exception of Brazilian university films.

2.3 Entry fees are non-refundable.

2.4 Brazilian university filmmakers must send the links to their films, with their respective passwords and technical file (in PDF format) EXCLUSIVELY to contatoficrio@gmail.com.

*3. SELECTION

3.1 All selected films will be available, on display on the FIC RIO Channel on YouTube (www.youtube.com/FICRIO), between April 25 and 30, 2022. The awarded films will be re-screened on May 1, 2022.

3.2 The Festival's curatorship will pay attention to the following selection criteria:
a) artistic and technical quality;
b) contribution to the strengthening of cultural diversity;
c) relevance of the film for the development of audiovisual language;
d) creativity and eloquent narrative.

3.3 Brazilian university films may compete in the categories of Best University Film and Best Poster.

3.4 International films will be able to compete in the categories of Best International Film, Best International Direction, Best International Actor, Best International Actress, Best Documentary, Best Animation, Best LGBTQIA+ Film, Best Micro Short (1 to 5 minutes), Best Music Video and Best Poster.

3.5 Each category will have between 3 and 5 nominees.

3.6 No appeals will be made on the decisions of the Festival's curatorship.

4.1 In all, there will be 27 awarded categories:

4.2 The choice of winners will be decided by a specialized jury composed of 3 members.

4.3 Winners will be announced on April 30, 2022.

4.4 If any category does not reach the minimum of 3 nominees, there will be no award for that category.

4.5 Each category will have at least one winner, and there may be a tie or an honorable mention, according to the votes of the specialized jury.

4.6 There will be no appeals on the decisions of the Festival jury.

4.7 Winners will receive laurel and official certificate (digital) from FIC RIO.

4.8 FIC RIO will make the Choices Trophy for the winner of each category, but the Festival will not be responsible for the costs of sending the trophy.

*5. IMAGE RIGHTS

5.1 Those selected authorize the use of their names, images and texts about the work, for exhibition in print and electronic media, in institutional materials, internet, television and radio, exclusively for non-profit dissemination of exhibitions and calls for proposals.

5.2 After submission, the person responsible will agree that the film (and trailer) or video clip will be shown for free during the second edition of the Festival.

*6. COPYRIGHT

6.1 The selected person assumes full responsibility for all elements or any type of work used in the production of the registered project, ensuring that the images, music, tracks and melodies do not infringe any copyright, related or owned by third parties.

* 7. FINAL PROVISIONS

7.1 The films that are selected for exhibition at the 2nd FIC RIO, ONLY these, those responsible must provide by the deadline to be informed by the Festival organization:
a) complete technical file of the film, containing contact details (e-mail and/or cell phone) of professionals who have been nominated in any category;
b) subtitles file (.srt) in English and a copy of the film without subtitles (for international films without subtitles in Portuguese). The material can be sent separately to contatoficrio@gmail.com
c) send the official trailer or teaser file, if you have it, in .MP4 or .MOV format, in 1920 X 1080 resolution, via WeTransfer, Google Drive or similar platform;
d) send a high resolution movie poster file.

7.2 Enrollment in the Festival implies acceptance of the requirements set out in these regulations.
