REGULATIONS

Article 1.
The FUNCHAL INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL is sponsored by the Regional Government of Madeira, to promote the films and the various events around them considering the new forms of thinking; viewing and communicating, as well as to promote Madeira Islands and the capital city of Funchal.

Article 2.
The FUNCHAL INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL is held annually and the 7th edition will take place from 07 till 15 November 2014.

Article 3.
The Festival has five sections.
3.1- Official Competitive Section: International competitive section for fiction features and short films, produced from 2013, January 1st.
3.2- Premiere Madeira: Film programme for local and amateurs productions.
3.3- Naval Videosub: International competitive section for underwater films
3.4- Panorama Section: Non-competitive section for films that enrich the festival’s programme by virtue of their historical value or artistic merit but not adequate for competition.
3.5- Retrospective Section: A selection of films, old and new, coming from an author, a country or illustrating a certain period in the history of filmmaking.

Article 4.
For the Competitive Section, the participating producers may present full-length and short films under the following conditions:
a) Films must have been produced during the last two years.
b) Short films must have 15 minutes, maximum.
c) Screening format: 35mm, Digibeta, Betacam SP, Blu-Ray, DVD.
d) Priority to films that had not been released in Portugal.

Article 5.
5.1- The deadline for Entry Forms is 10th October 2014.
5.2- Will be only accepted entries that include a DVD version of the film and an Entry Form duly filled and signed.

Article 6.
6.1- To submit a film for selection, the producer must send to the Festival Head Office, at own expenses, an Entry Form accompanied by the following materials:
a) DVD (all regions) version of the film subtitled in English, French, Spanish or Portuguese.
b) DVD (all regions) of the film trailer.
c) CD containing:
• A Synopsis of the film in English, French, Spanish or Portuguese.
• Dialogue List of the film in English, French or Spanish for electronic translation.
• Five (5) digital photos of the film plus one (1) photo of the director (jpeg, resolution: 300 dpi).
• Short biography and filmography of the director.
• A complete artistic and technical dossier.
6.2- All this materials will be not returned and the Festival will retain for its archive.

Article 7.
A committee appointed by the Organizers will select the films submitted to the Competitive Sections of the Festival.

Article 8.
Once the Festival confirms that a film has been selected, the following press and advertising materials must be sent urgently:
a) A Press Kit (2 posters, postcards or flyers…) and other relevant information.
b) Betacam PAL or EPK or DVD format trailer of the film, for TV promotion (máx. 3min.)
8.1- The Festival will not be accountable for any expenses deriving from the shipment of afore mentioned material.
8.2- The promotional materials sent to Festival’s selections are not returned and the Festival will retain for its archive.

Article 9.
Screening Prints
9.1- The screening prints of the films should be in possession of the organizing committee on the 24th November 2014 (deadline if entering for the Competitive Section). Shipping of the screening print on Festival’s account.
9.2- A pro-forma invoice specifying that the copy is being transferred on a temporary and basis as: “No Commercial Value. Exclusively for Cultural Purposes. For Festival Screening Only” must accompany the copy of the film, including the name of the sender; film title; weight; measurements and number of reels.
9.3- The Festival will return the screening copy once finished and by on Festival expenses, except when the film is sent to another festival, as accorded in all international film festivals.
9.4- Transport and handling insurance of the films are the entire responsibility of the Festival, from its arrival until its return.
9.5- The Festival haves the right to screen the film in competition two times during the event.
9.6 The 35mm prints for screening must be send directly to:

Article 10.
Awards of the Festival
10.1- The International Jury whose decisions are irreversible, will award the following prizes:
a) “Funchal City Golden Award” for the Best Film.
b) “Funchal City Silver Award” to award a film whose artistic and/or technical aspects and cinematographic quality present a high level of originality, content and form).
c) FIFF-Madeira Best Actress Award
d) FIFF-Madeira Best Actor Award
e) FIFF-Madeira Audience Award (attributed by the Festival’s spectators).
10.2- FIFF-Madeira Best Short Film Award
10.3- Premiere Madeira Award (for the best short produced in Madeira)
10.4- Naval Videosub (for the best underwater film)
10.5- “Funchal City Honorary Award” for merit contributions to the film industry.

Article 11.
a) The Organizing Committee will decide on all matters not provided in these regulations, in compliance with the application of the International Regulations for Film Festivals.
b) The participation in FIFF-Madeira 2014 presupposes knowledge of and an acceptance of these regulations.
