Festival start: 26 May 2024      Festival end: 26 May 2024

Short films, either animation or live action, in the science fiction, fantasy or horror categories are desired. Films are typically from 5 to 15 minutes (as long as 20 minutes)in length.

Currently we plan on a live event from May 24-27, 2024 in downtown Baltimore, much like the events we have had for the past 50+ years.

Awards (certificates) are given to the top 3 films in each category, based upon audience voting.

(1) There is no charge to enter your film and no fees are paid for screening a film.

(2) The film festival runs for about 4 hours on May 26, 2024, so we are limiting the number of entries to approximately 20. All films will be screened once during the festival. If there are more than 20 worthwhile submittals, we will prejudge the top 20 for inclusion. In the past we have received between 150 and 250 films.

(3) Most films are under 15 minutes in length, but we will accept films up to 20 minutes.

(4) Films should be submitted through the festhome.com website. Upon acceptance, a projection mp4 version of the film needs to be available to the Balticon committee for evaluation. Lower resolution films are acceptable for initial evaluations. All copies of submitted films will be deleted by June 15, 2022 following the end of Balticon 56.

(5) Films do not need audio in English, but if not, then subtitles in English are required.

(6) All submittals will be pre-evaluated by the Balicon committee. If more than 4 hours of films are deemed acceptable, then the top 240 minutes of films (4 hours - usually 20-24 films) will be accepted for screening.

(7) All films must be submitted by April 10, 2024. Decisions will be announced around April 30, 2024. The film festival takes place Sunday evening May 26, 2024 and decisions will be announced by May 29,2024.

(8) Awards are decided by the voting of attendees to the festival and will be counted shortly after the festival ends.

(9) Questions should be sent to the film festival director at filmfestival@balticon.org.
