The ACCIONS 3E Non-Profit Cultural Association is convening and organizing the 29th SUNCINE International Environmental Film Festival, to be held on November 2-10, 2023.

SUNCINE, formerly known as FICMA, was first held in 1993 and is positioned as the oldest Environmental Film Festival in the world; it is a reference in its genre.

SUNCINE is a multi-screen festival (in-person, online and televised). Its primary objective is to promote, disseminate and publicize environmental audiovisual works to raise awareness about the state of the environment, biodiversity and the planet’s sustainability.

The Golden Sun has been the top SUNCINE award since its inception in 1993, and is the oldest award for environmental cinematography in the world. Together with the statuette, the sum of USD 4,000 is awarded to the winner of the Official Section.

Other Festival awards are:
“Views WWF” (USD 2,000), “Monarca” (USD 1,000), “Reels” (USD 300).

In the event of other new prizes, the organization will notify the participants in advance.

FESTIVAL RULES

1 | INTRODUCTION

The ACCIONS 3E Non-Profit Cultural Association is convening and organizing the 30th SUNCINE International Environmental Film Festival, to be held on November 2-10, 2022.
SUNCINE, formerly known as FICMA, was first held in 1993 and is positioned as the oldest Environmental Film Festival in the world; it is a reference in its genre.
This year we celebrate three decades of SUNCINE and our hope is, through the different multi-screen options offered by the Festival: screenings for a live audience, and others on the Festival’s geolocated platform and on public television, to promote, disseminate and publicize environmental audiovisual works to raise awareness about the state of the environment, biodiversity and the planet’s sustainability.

2 | PARTICIPATION

All films produced after January 1, 2022 that deal with different social and environmental situations and circumstances anywhere in the world are eligible to participate in the 30th SUNCINE Festival.

The films must not contain samples or incitement to hatred towards any religion or community, gender or political orientation of any kind, and also any kind of commercial interests.

3 | SECTIONS

A) OFFICIAL:
Documentaries of all nationalities at least 50 minutes long are eligible to participate, aspiring to win the Festival’s top award, the Golden Sun. Priority will be given to all those productions that are premières in Spain and, exceptionally, non-competing productions may be included in this section, by decision of the Festival Management.

b) VIEWS:
20-50 minute documentaries of all nationalities that are competing for the “Views WWF” Prize are eligible to participate.
The Festival will ask the directors of the films entered in this section to participate in a special program on public television.
In the pre-selection, priority will be given to those productions that agree to be on the Festival platform.

c) SHORT FILMS:
Documentaries, fictions and animations of all nationalities up to 20 minutes long are eligible to compete for the Monarch Prize.

D) REELS:
Aspire to the SUNCINE REEL Award all those contents in reel format (1080x1920) with a maximum duration of 90''. The contents registered in this Section, the Festival will propose to the filmmakers to participate in a special program on public television and on the festival platforms.

4 | REGISTRATION

Registration for the 30th SUNCINE FESTIVAL is FREE and is open until June 1, 2023 on the following platform:

Participation requires completion of the Registration Form (available on the Festival website, www.suncinefest.com), which must then be sent in by email to: entry@suncinefest.com.
UNSIGNED registration forms will not be considered valid.

The Festival will communicate the results of the selection through the registration platforms and will notify selected entries directly by email. The official selection will be published on the Festival website and its social media.

5 | JURY

The Festival jury will consist of cinema and environmental professionals for each of the Festival’s competition sections. The jury’s verdict is not subject to appeal.

6 | prizes

7 | EACH CLASSROOM A CINEMA

Is the Environmental Education Program is free and only for school or educative centers, under the motto: “Educate through entertainment and sensitize by raising awareness”. Selected movies may be included in the program. If an author/producer does not wish to participate, he/she must state this explicitly in the corresponding box on the registration form.

8 | SUNCINE SHOWINGS

SUNCINE Showings are intended to promote environmental education and awareness using audiovisuals. They are always non-profit and offer free entry to all spectators. If an author/producer does not wish to participate in these Showings, he/she must state this explicitly in the corresponding box on the registration form.

9 | PROMOTION AND COMMUNICATION

SUNCINE organizers may use photos, posters, trailers or film excerpts (not longer than 3’) to publicize the event on TV programs, radio, printed press and social media.
The Festival will provide the images of the Official Selection winners and of the awards ceremony to all the works that are part of the 30th SUNCINE Festival, so that participants can include them on their promotional posters and trailers.

10 | ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES

The signature of the work’s author and/or producer on the registration form for the 30th SUNCINE International Environmental Film Festival represents acceptance of the complete set of Rules in any legal or administrative context. The Festival reserves the right to make modifications and/or include matters not specified in this set of Rules, which will always be communicated in advance to the participants registered in this edition of the Festival.
