If the original language of any dialogue or text featured in the short film is not Spanish, the copy must be subtitled in Spanish or English.

Short Films in National competition, will be paid 300 euros by way of having been selected.

Rules and Regulations Short Film Official Competition


1. Participation requirements

National and International competitive sections are open to any film completed from January 1, 2018.

Films mustn't be over 35 minutes in length including credits.

The festival is open to short films of any genres (fiction, animation, documentary, experimental), production techniques, forms and budgets.

Short Films previously submitted to previous editions of the festival will not be considered.

Short Films will be submitted by their owners or representatives.

The owners or representatives must have obtained necessary permissions for the inclusion of copyrighted music and/or images within the short films. With the submission, the applicant confirms that they posses all rights necessary for the screening of the submitted short film.


2. Digital submissions and notifications

Any contestant will send an inscription form and video file of the short film through the following digitals platforms:

Festhome.com

Fees and registration period:

Regular: 2 € from February, 1st to August 16th, both inclusive.

Extended: 5 € from August 17th to September 15th, both inclusive.


If the original language of any dialogue or text featured in the short film is not Spanish, the copy must be subtitled in Spanish or English, unless this is at variance with the filmmaker’s intention.


3. Selection:

Applicants will be notified via e-mail about the selection of their film.

If selected, the festival may contact the representative of the film to request further material.

The screening copies of all selected films, will be send in due time and manner stipulated in this regulation. In any case, they will be sent by a digital private server.

The screening format will be digital:

• .MOV
• MEPG-4. H264
• FULL HD
• Audio STEREO AAC

All submitted short films will be in original version. If the original language is not Spanish, the short film will be sent with Spanish subtitles or with a dialog sheet in ingles (preferably in .SRT)

Short films may be screened privately to the jury or to accredited guests. Short films may also be included in other public programmes, subject to the submitter’s permission. The festival will never allow any third party access to the short film without the submitter’s permission.

All the details about the time and locations will appear on the festival catalogue and on the official web www.aguilarfilmfestival.com.

Short Films in National competition, will be paid 300 euros by way of having been selected.

This is subject to attend and participate in the short film screening (director, producer, actors).

Any selected filmmaker will be offered at least one night’s accommodation in a single room to attend the screening of her/his film.


4. Selection Comittee and Official Jury

The Selection Comittee will be composed of professionals from the audiovisual arts. They will be in charge of selecting the short films to compete in the different sections of the festival.

Official Jury should not have less than three members nor than nine members. Their unappealable decision will be known during the Festival's closing ceremony.

There will be another specific juries for the rest of the awards whose decisions will be also unappealable.


5. MINIFICA. Kids and Youth Short Films Competition


MINIFICA 2018. Kids and Youth Short Films Competition is part of the FICA 2019

The submission requirements are the same as the Official Section, but the films must be oriented to an audience until 16 years old.

The online inscription must be done in the specific section (MINIFICA).


Three different competitions will be available for international and national works:

Short Films for viewers aged 0+

Short Films for viewers aged 3+

Short Films for viewers aged 7+


The MINIFICA Jury will be composed of professionals from the arts, culture and children’s education.

Their decisions will be unappealable.


6. Awards

To be eligible for Castilla Leon Award short films must fulfill one of the following requirements:

* Short Film directed or produced by people born in Castilla Leon.

* Short Film must have been shot in Castilla Leon either wholly or in part.

* Short Film must have been produced by people or companies based in Castilla Leon.

* Short Film must have been directed or produced by people who have lived five consecutive years or seven alternate years in Castilla Leon.

All short films included in the Quercus Catalogue (selection made by the Film Festivals Association of Castilla Leon) will be automatically eligible for Castilla Leon Award.

The location where the shooting took place must be stated in the registration form, certifying that all information provided is true.

All awards are subject to be taxed as stipulated by the current legislation. The payment periods will be established by FICA.

The FICA award must appear in the winner short films for eventual screenings in other events and festival.


7. Preselection for Goya Awards

FICA collaborates with the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in preselecting the best short films for the Goya Awards.

The winners short films in the FICA Official Competition (fiction and documentary) will be able to be eligible as a final candidate providing it complies with the requirements of the Goya Regulations: www.academiadecine.com


8. Mercacort

All submitted films may participate in Mercacort (Short Film Market). Shorts Films will be available for authorised persons in private screenings.

In case any applicant doesn’t want to be part of this section, the representatives of the short film will state it in the registration form.


9. Acceptance of the competition terms and data protection
Participation in this festival entails the acceptance of the current regulations. All doubts from the interpretation of these rules and regulations will be solved by the FICA.

Personal details provided by festival participants will be processed and incorporated into the relevant festival organizers data files, as dictated by Spanish data protection law “ Ley Orgánica 15/1999, de 13 de diciembre, de Protección de Datos de Carácter Personal (LOPD)”.
